Our Services

We offer a variety of different ways to learn to drive as well as teaching different driving styles for different situations.

Defensive Driving

Defensive driving is a form of driving which gives the pupil the ability to anticipate and identify on-road risks and equip pupils with the skill of foreseeing collisions and incidents. This is achieved by forward planning, instructing the pupil to look as far as they can and pick out potential hazards. This will give the pupil more time to react if an incident arises. From the very first lesson to the last, the importance of safe, defensive driving will be applied to all pupils. This will make for a more alert and conscientious driver, with the confidence to deal with any situation that may arise.

Eco driving

Eco-driving is a way of driving that reduces fuel consumption, greenhouse emissions and accident rates. Linked with defensive driving, forward planning and gear selection for different situations produces the optimal style for today’s modern technology and environment. This leads to a smoother and safer driving technique. The skills acquired will be more cost effective, will cause fewer accidents and reduce emission and noise levels.

Free theory & hazard perception training

The theory test is made up of the following two parts. They both use touch screen technology.

Part 1: Multiple Choice assessment

Each question has several options. Some questions may require more than one answer. The time limit is currently 57 minutes and the pass mark is 43 out of 50.

Part 2: Hazard perception assessment

The pupil will be shown a series of video clips which feature a typical road scene. Each clip will display at least one developing hazard but one of the clips will feature two hazards. There are 14 clips with 15 developing hazards. The pass mark is 44 out of 75.

Chequered Flag Driving School offer free training to pupils. The theory test must be passed before applying for the practical test.

Pass Plus

Pass Plus is a training course aimed at current drivers. The course enhances the skill range and knowledge to help a pupil become a more confident driver, working on areas such as anticipation, planning and dealing with different hazards. Pass Plus consists of six modules about driving in different conditions:

Built up areas

Rural areas

All weathers

Night driving

Motorways & Dual Carriageways

All modules need to be completed to pass the course. Some modules may need to be carried out as theory sessions due to local conditions and the time of the year. The duration of the Pass Plus is at least 6 hours but may vary.
